Northwest Airlines is a company founded in 1926 by Lewis Brittin. This airline is a member of Sky Team and its passengers can enjoy the amenities of the organization. There are 390 airplanes in its fleet and it operates flights to 255 destinations. Northwest Airlines’ watchword is: "Now you are flying smart". It is headquartered in Eagan, Minnesota. Northwest Airlines is in the lead in carrying people across the Pacific Ocean: about 5.1 mln passengers a year. The company was under bankruptcy protection, as well as other four largest air carriers, until the May, 2007. This resulted in many staff layoffs and in the shrinking of the fleet. Northwest Airlines is famous for its World Perks loyalty program for regular passengers.

Airlines are companies which provide passenger and cargo transportation services using air planes. To offer such services each company has to have a relevant license or certificate. Airlines vary from those operating one plane to transport mail or cargo, to full-service international companies maintaining a fleet of airplanes. They distinguish between the following categories of airline services: domestic, intra continental or international, and intercontinental. Charter flights with scheduled services are also available. Airline personnel consists of pilots, flight engineers and flight attendants.

Each plane has its own carrying capacity, thus there is a fixed seat number on the plane and passengers are allowed to have limited hand luggage with them. Other luggage goes separately in the luggage compartment. Onboard, passengers are offered drinks, snacks and rugs which are included in the price of the ticket. Before, during and after takeoff, flight attendants provide the passengers with the rule to be stick to in the plain. Onboard, there are air masks and safety belts to be used in emergencies. When booking a flight, one should always indicate whether he needs assistance during any stage of flight (for the disabled).
